Sorare scores a new goal
On November 10, 2020, FC Bayern Munich, champion of the Bundesliga 2020, announced a partnership with the fantasy soccer platform Sorare, for the creation of limited edition digital cards of the club's players.
More than 100 clubs have joined the platform, including Juventus, Atletico de Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
These virtual cards can be exchanged between collectors, just like physical cards.
A player's score on the card depends on his performance in matches, whether in the Bundesliga or the Champions League.
Sorare CEO Nicolas Julia says the platform boasts the support of 3 European champions and now has global reach.
900,000 EUR in sales in 1 month thanks to the cards
Sorare is designed on the Ethereum network (ETH) and generates unique collectibles that cannot be duplicated.
The blockchain guarantees the digital scarcity of the cards and makes it possible to determine who is the owner at a given moment T.
But the cards are actually more than collectibles. A user can create their own fantasy soccer team to compete and win rewards every week.
Since the launch of its Beta version in December 2019, the number of users has grown by 52% per month, with 45,000 users worldwide.
Sorare has generated nearly $2.5 million in revenue from digital card sales in just over a year. It recorded 900,000 EUR in sales in October 2020 alone.
In July 2020, the platform announced a €4 million fundraising campaign. The platform is financed by e.ventures, Partech, Kima Ventures and Seedcamp.
