How many Bitcoin Billionaires (BTC) exist in the world?

There is no doubt that cryptomoney and especially Bitcoin have enabled the emergence of new millionaires and billionaires. The number of the latter being necessarily limited, their identity is however not known by all. In addition to the high volatility of the cryptomoney, the reserve of the interested parties on their patrimony makes it even more difficult to count them. However, it is certain that the first investors who took part in the adventure would be among the first to do so, provided that they have kept a large part of their assets. More details in the following.

A billionaire in Bitcoin and a major player in cryptographic space

Compared to the year 2018, there are now half as many billionaires in cryptomoney known in the Forbes list of the world's richest people. This is mainly due to the reasons mentioned above and to the entry of larger players in this market. However, it is important to distinguish between two types of billionaires. On the one hand, there are those who use their fortunes to acquire Bitcoin en masse, and on the other hand, there are those who have made their fortunes from Bitcoin. This second category is also unique, because they are personalities who later became major players in the cryptographic space.

At the bottom of our top 5 are the brothers Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, whose fortunes are estimated at $1 billion each according to Bloomberg's Billionaire Index. Founders of the Gemini exchange, they made their fortune by investing early in Bitcoin as you will soon see in the movie Bitcoin Billionaires. Next comes Brian Armstrong who is the youngest billionaire to come out of this ecosystem and incidentally co-founder of the Coinbase exchange. Positioned at the 1990th place on the Forbes Billionaires 2020 list, he would have a net fortune estimated at 1 billion dollars.

A ranking dominated by a character relatively unknown to the masses

The top trio is made up of the inevitable founder and CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, better known as CZ. His estimated $1.2 billion fortune would be mostly made up of Bitcoin, Ethereum and BNB (Binance Coin). It is overtaken in the ranking by another major player in the person of Chris Larsen who is nothing other than the co-founder of Ripple. Larsen's wealth is currently estimated at $2.6 billion, more than double that of his predecessor.

At the top of the list is a personality whose name might not necessarily attract crowds, but who is known to purists. Micree Zhan, as he is known, is an electronics engineer and co-founder of the mining equipment manufacturer Bitmain. His contribution to the development of Bitcoin has nothing to envy to the others and allows him to get away with 3.2 billion dollars.

With more than a million Bitcoin in his possession, equivalent to more than 16 billion dollars, Satoshi Nakamoto, the inventor of Bitcoin, is a scarecrow, hence his absence from this ranking. This is also because his true identity is unknown and his assets have not yet moved an inch on the network.
