Controlling inflation, which has peaked in the United States in four decades, is the "most important" task facing the US Federal Reserve (Fed) today, Governor Lael Brainard says in reports. remarks prepared for a hearing before Congress on Thursday.

"We are seeing the strongest rebound in growth and the largest decline in unemployment ever recorded during an economic recovery in the past five decades," she told parliamentarians, according to comments released in advance on Wednesday by the Fed.


"But inflation is too high, and worried workers across the country are" about the burden of it on their wages. "Our monetary policy is centered on returning inflation to 2%, while maintaining an inclusive economic rebound. This is our most important task."
