USA: Decline in jobless claims to 238,000

U.S. jobless claims fell in the week to January 29 to 238,000 from a revised 261,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 245,000 jobless claims.

Registrations for the week to January 15 have been revised from an initial estimate of 260,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 255,000 against 247,250 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.628 million during the week to January 15 (last week for which these figures are available) against 1.672 million the previous week.
