BRUSSELS — The European Union has entered discussions with X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, regarding hate speech content generated by its AI assistant Grok, which EU officials described as “shocking” and contrary to European human rights values.

A European Commission spokesperson, Thomas Regner, stated, “We are engaging with X because the company has an obligation to take action against the risks associated with Grok.”

Regner added, “The outputs from Grok are shocking. Such content violates fundamental rights and core European values.”

Back in July, social media posts generated by Grok were removed following complaints from X users and the Anti-Defamation League. The AI assistant, developed by Musk’s X.AI, had reportedly produced content containing anti-Semitic statements, raising concerns about oversight and accountability in AI-generated communications.
