EL SALVADOR: YOU CAN NOW PAY MCDONALD'S IN BITCOINS

On September 7, El Salvador became the first country to adopt Bitcoin as its official currency. McDonald's immediately incorporated the innovation and now allows its customers to pay for their orders in cryptocurrency.

While El Salvador became, on Tuesday, September 7, the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as an official currency - in addition to the US dollar - the fast-food giant McDonald's has decided to add cryptocurrency to its means of payment . As reported by our colleagues from the specialized site Bitcoin Magazine , it is now possible to buy your burger in Bitcoin in this Latin American country.

Salvadoran law now states that businesses are required to accept Bitcoin payments. However, many customers were skeptical when it came time to pay for their cryptocurrency order on the same day the legislation came into effect. And yet: to the surprise of many bitcoiners, McDonald's in El Salvador already accepts this new type of payment.

Just walked into a McDonald's in San Salvador to see if I could pay for my breakfast with bitcoin, tbh fully expecting to be told no.

But low and behold, they printed a ticket with QR that took me to a webpage with Lightning invoice, and now I'm enjoying my desayuno traditional! pic.twitter.com/NYCkMNbv7U

Buy beers, tiles and a bike in Bitcoin

In France, there are already companies and businesses that accept payments in cryptocurrency, although they have not been established as official currencies at all. As Business Insider noted in March, for example, it has been possible to pay for your Bitcoin aperitif at Sof's Bar, in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris for several years. The establishment also organizes meetings to discuss cryptocurrency and help novices to better understand how they work. In France, it is in fact possible to buy a bicycle, accessories for your cat and even tiles thanks to your cryptocurrency wallet.
