Unilever announces that it has partnered with the gut microbiome experts at Holobiome to identify food and beverage ingredients that could have a positive impact on mental well-being by targeting the gut-brain axis.

'The long-term ambition is to improve these ingredients in certain food products in Unilever's portfolio in order to naturally increase the levels of certain calming neurotransmitters in the gut, thereby improving mental well-being,' explains the group.

The screening process will look for ingredients that have prebiotic potential. This research is expected to continue over the next year and the results should be expected by the end of 2022.
