ORPEA : THE CEO IS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING PRACTICES BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THE AUDITS

Orpea 's new CEO , Philippe Charrier, said in a press release on Tuesday that he will ensure that "best practices are applied and monitored" across the group. , in turmoil since the publication almost two weeks ago of a book denouncing abuses, failures and negligence in some of its establishments in France.

"The objective that guides each of my decisions is to guarantee, under the control of the board of directors and thanks in particular to the independent external evaluation missions which have already started, that the best practices are applied and monitored throughout the company. ", he notes in the preamble to the press release reporting the group's results.

" Orpea wishes to be able to play its full part in helping to support and implement any new provisions that may be decided in order to improve the conditions for taking care of dependency", he adds.

The evaluation mission entrusted at the beginning of the month to two independent firms by the group's board of directors has already begun, it is also specified in the press release.

In addition to this investigation carried out by Orpea , the group is also the target of two administrative investigations launched by the government, one entrusted to the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (Igas, Ministry of Health) and the other to the General Inspectorate Finance (IGF, Ministry of Economy and Finance).

According to Orpea , the IGF report should be completed "mid-March".

Heard last week by the Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly with the director general France of Orpea , Jean-Christophe Romersi, Philippe Charrier refuted the accusations of the book "Les Fossoyeurs", an investigation by independent journalist Victor Castanet, without convincing the deputies.

The group's previous managing director, Yves Le Masne, who was sacked at the end of January, finds himself once again on the front line.

Le Canard enchaîné, after reporting last week that it would have received 590,000 euros last summer by selling shares in the group shortly after learning of the preparation of Victor Castanet's book, announced on Tuesday on Twitter the publication of an article on his "golden parachute" in his Wednesday edition.

The former chief executive of Orpea strongly rejected any accusation of insider trading and for his part, the group let it be known that the board of directors had "decided to postpone any decision concerning (his) severance package until 'to the results of the independent evaluation mission'.

The scandal around the methods within one of the world's leading groups of accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) and clinics has not spared the rest of the sector.

It has gained further momentum in recent days with the announcement of an ongoing investigation by the France 2 magazine "Cash Investigation" into practices within private nursing homes, as well as the preparation of collective proceedings against Orpea. as well as its main competitor, the French group Korian .

On the financial level, Orpea also reported in this press release on a 2021 activity in line with its objectives, with a turnover of 4.285 billion euros last year.
